Complicated Grips

Sometimes I roll with people, and they play a "sporty" game as they call it. One of the meanings of sporty is, that your opponent often times uses a set of complicated grips. When you play into that game it is hard to deal with. But there are weaknesses to this game as well.

First of all, a complicated grip is not easy to get. Weaving a lapel between your opponent's leg and switching hands, etc takes time. This gives you time to get your grips off first as well as plenty of chances to break their grips and counter grip. Secondly when your opponent secures a complicated grip, they will not easily give it up because of the time they spent getting it. That means you can sometimes use their own grip against them to sweep or submit because they won't want to let it go.
