Jiu Jitsu is Sexy I Guess

I am going to be reprinting some old classic entries from my previous blog called The Angry Grappler. It will chronicle the evolution in my understanding of martial arts.
02 April 2007 @ 12:37 am
We call them Maria Tatame. Hot BJJ groupies, no other martial arts or combat sports has them. This sport may have the hottest ones period. But why? Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Karate, Kung Fu, they all have no groupies. Why this? My answer is, martial arts is made by Asians, when are Asian men categorized as sexy? Nothing hot or sexy about a Kung Fu dude or a Karate guy. But BJJ is Brazilian, and i think Brazil is just considered a sexy country and girls like Brazilian things. From the accent to the clothes and the lifestyle, the food. I guess Brazilians know something about bringing in the girls. All my time training TKD, no hot groupies at tournaments, we dressed stupid, had no sponsors, had no cool lifestyle mag, no MMA fighters around, etc. Leave it to the Brazilians to bring sexy to combat sports and martial arts. Is that why all the other martial arts and even boxing feel threatened? At the Pan Ams I saw so many Maria Tatames, Sofia Tatames and Asian Tatames.

BJJ = Beach, competition, a tan, Brazil, warm weather, sexy accent, board shorts, buff dudes, hot girls.

McDojo Arts = Skinny Asian guy with glasses, fat Asian guy, fat white guy who thinks hes Asian, farmers tans, no muscles, a lot of yelling, and bad Bruce Lee hair cuts.
