Paragon BJJ

I am going to be reprinting some old classic entries from my previous blog called The Angry Grappler. It will chronicle the evolution in my understanding of martial arts.

I finally made it to the legendary Paragon Jiu Jitsu to visit my friends Sean Apperson and Sean Conley. some of the best and nicest jiu jitsu guys around. This school is no joke and not for the faint of heart. Their warm ups are anywhere from 30-60 mins and push not only your endurance but also your heart. Then you have the class and Franjinha breaks everything down even how many points each move and combo will earn you. every guy I met there was tough, strong, and competitive from white belt and it only got worse as the rankings went up.
I rolled with a guy named Adom (sp?) and the guy was a beast! He took time to tell me my flaws and mistakes and when asked with the question, what if the guy doesn't let you do a certain move, his answer was, of course he isn't. Jiu jitsu is a fight! That sums up this school pretty well. They produced Jeff Glover, Tyrone Glover, and Bill Cooper. Their ultimate submission is their conditioning. And their techniques are sound and sometimes brutal, similar to the jiu jitsu I trained in brazil.
My buddy and I both wanted to yak a few times and rank out of the drills but we didn't want them to think we were pussies. Though compared to them we were haha. Never eat a giant burrito before class. Just a warning! I did have to sit out the last rounds of sparring as I got more distances to cover. I definitely want to come back. Even though they are tough every guy I met was nice.
