The Champion And The Teacher

Good teaching takes a certain amount of humility. A humbleness to want to see others get better than you. This is the paradigm of great champions and great teachers. Sometimes a champion will become a great teacher, like my own instructor Cobrinha. Sometimes they will not, there are countless examples. There are also teachers who have never been a champion yet cannot be humble or elevate others to be better than them. They cultivate a mystique. There are countless examples of this as well.

To be a champion you have to want to become better than everyone else, at your belt, at your weight, and against everyone in the world. Teaching means make the world better than you. It's hard to compete and teach at the same time for this reason.

The dual nature of the champion and teacher.
